Small Groups for All Ages

encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.

– 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Jesus calls us together into community because we need each other to live out our faith in a healthy way.  Jesus shows us that discipleship happens together;  we learn from one another, share our gifts and insights and grow in the process.  Just as importantly, we learn how to “do life together”, building relationships and friendships that strengthen and encourage each other through the ups and downs of life as we rely on God together. At First Baptist Church, we have many small groups and classes that meet on Sunday and throughout the week.

Sunday Morning Small Groups / Classes

Children’s Church  Before the sermon, children from Preschool through around 3rd grade are welcomed with their parent’s permission to be dismissed to a worship and teaching time that is more geared for their age and learning level.  The themes and scripture usually connect to what is being taught that Sunday, so that children and parents can share about what they learned and how it applies to our lives and faith today.

‘Jazz’ Class – Meets Sunday Mornings at 11:30 am (after worship) in the Library A small group of predominately young adults, meeting for discussion and reflection on scripture and on other books of interest to the class.  In the past year, they read through the book of James, the Donald Miller book ‘Blue Like Jazz’ (from which the group name emerged), and is currently reading through C.S. Lewis’ ‘Screwtape Letters’.

Koinonia Class – Meets Sunday Mornings at 11:15 am (after worship) in the Upstairs Classroom #205 The “Koinonia” Small Group is composed of working and retired friends. The word “koinonia” is defined as “fellowship, sharing in common, communion with other believers, with Jesus Christ”. Our studies include published study materials, books, and other references—selected collectively through our group discussions, with shared leadership within Koinonia. We all participate in fellowship with each other and invite guests to join us for numerous social activities and gatherings, in addition to our Sunday Class study. All are welcome in Koinonia and loved!

Pathfinders – Meets Sunday Mornings at 11:15 am (after worship) in the Upstairs Classroom #206 The Pathfinders class consists primarily of senior adults who meet regularly on Sunday morning to discuss material explored in the Formations Study Guide based on selected Bible passages from the New Revised Standard Version.  The passages and commentary are designed to reflect Christian reactions and applications to life in the 21st Century.  The lively discussions are led by individuals who are also members of the class.
